The Four-Pillar Visibility Score: How AI Names Your Business

AI reads your Google Business Profile to decide who to name. We measure four pillars that determine whether it does.

What is the Four-Pillar Visibility Score?

It's a single score built from four channels AI uses to find and name a local business: your Google Business Profile, your visibility across six AI assistants, your directory citations, and your website's alignment with your profile. We measure all four and tell you which one to fix first.

When someone asks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Google AI Mode, Grok, or Perplexity for a local business, those assistants scan four information layers before they recommend anyone. If your business is incomplete, miscited, or misaligned across any layer, the AI either doesn't find you or picks your competitor. The Four-Pillar Visibility Score measures all four at once and tells you which one to fix first.

Each pillar is scored independently, but together they show the complete picture of your local and AI search presence. This example shows a business that's strong on AI visibility but losing ground on citations.

Pillar 1: Google Business Profile (The Hub)

Your Google Business Profile is where AI starts. It's the first place ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Google AI Mode, Grok, and Perplexity look for your categories, services, hours, and location. An incomplete or outdated profile doesn't just hurt Google Search—it breaks AI visibility entirely. If your profile says you offer "Plumbing" but you specialize in emergency water damage, or your phone number is wrong, AI guesses. Incomplete attributes mean AI infers what you do instead of knowing it. We audit your profile against what's working for competitors in your market, then close the gaps.

Pillar 2: AI Visibility (The Overlay)

Being ranked number one on Google doesn't mean ChatGPT knows you exist. The six AI assistants—ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Google AI Mode, Grok, and Perplexity—have their own training data and citation preferences. Most local businesses aren't named by any of them. We check whether these assistants actually cite your business. If they don't, we show you why—usually because your profile is incomplete, your citations are inconsistent, or your website doesn't match what your profile says. The fix: make yourself consistent and findable to AI, not just to Google's crawler.

Pillar 3: Citations (The Trust Layer)

Your business data lives on 40+ directories—Yelp, Apple Maps, Facebook, Chamber of Commerce, industry directories, and more. AI weights these citations as authority signals. One wrong phone number or outdated address on even a few directories tanks your AI visibility because AI sees conflicting information and loses confidence. We scan 40+ directories, find every inconsistency, and give you a fix list in priority order—the ones that move the needle fastest.

Pillar 4: Website Match (The New Spoke)

Does your website describe the same business as your profile? Missing schema markup, broken links, outdated service pages, or different business descriptions mean AI reads conflicting signals. If your profile says you serve three states but your website only mentions your home county, AI sees a mismatch and loses trust. Website Match checks your schema, service alignment, location consistency, and technical compliance. This is the pillar you control directly—and the one that unlocks long-term visibility without relying on directories or paid placements.

    How They Work Together

A complete Google Business Profile doesn't help if you're not cited by AI assistants. Dozens of accurate citations don't help if your website contradicts your profile. A well-built website doesn't help if your profile is incomplete. The four pillars work as a system. Fix one, and the others amplify the result. Break one, and the whole structure collapses. Your Four-Pillar Visibility Score is a single number that shows the state of all four—and tells you exactly which one to fix first.

    Questions About the Four Pillars

Why does my Google Business Profile matter if most of my customers find me another way?

Because AI assistants read it first. Your profile is the record they check for your categories, services, hours, and location. Even a customer who never opens Google Maps can end up with an answer that was built from your profile — or from a competitor's, if yours is incomplete.

Can I improve AI visibility without fixing my website?

Partly. Fixing your profile and citations can help AI find and confirm you. But when your website says something different from your profile, AI sees a conflict and leans toward a business it can confirm cleanly. The website is the pillar you control directly, so leaving it out limits how far the other three go.

Which AI assistants do you check?

Six: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Google AI Mode, Grok, and Perplexity. We check whether each one names your business for the questions your customers actually ask. We don't have access to any assistant's ranking system — we report what they return.

I rank well on Google. Doesn't that mean AI already knows me?

No. Search ranking and AI citation are separate. Assistants build answers from profiles, directory listings, and page content they can verify. A business that ranks first can still go unnamed if its data is thin or inconsistent.

    What counts as a citation?

Any listing of your business name, address, phone, website, and categories on a directory — Google, Yelp, Apple Maps, BBB, Facebook, chambers, and industry-specific sites. Citations aren't links you build for rank. They're the records AI cross-references to confirm you're real and current.

How many directories do you check?

More than 40, including the major consumer directories and the industry-specific ones relevant to your trade. We list every mismatch we find in priority order.

What does Website Match actually look at?

Whether your site supports your profile: schema markup, business name and contact details, the services you list, the areas you say you serve, and whether the pages describing them exist and load. Mismatches between the site and the profile are the most common thing we find.

Do I have to fix all four pillars at once?

No. The score tells you which pillar is weakest so you can start there. The pillars reinforce each other, so a fix in one often makes the others count for more — but you can work through them in order.

How is the composite score calculated?

Each pillar is scored independently from 0 to 100 based on what we can verify, then combined into a single composite. The pillar scores stay visible so you can see exactly where the number comes from.

Is the audit really free, and what do I get?

Yes — no card and no contract. You get your Four-Pillar breakdown emailed within 24 hours: profile gaps, whether the six assistants name you, citation conflicts, and where your website and profile disagree. We only call if you ask us to.
